*Empowering Families* *Building Confident Children* *Developing Resilience*

We are delighted to welcome you to Empowering Families, a service that empowers children to make positive choices about their lives, developing their self-confidence and building their resilience.
We offer a range of support services for children aged between 9 and 13 years.
Our service commences on 1st September 2024
I am delighted to be launching as a sole trader in September 2024 under the brand Empowering Families. Our support will initially be available during weekends and school holidays.
With over 20 years of professional experience of working with children and their families within Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, I am a strong believer in the delivery of quality early preventative services for children and their families. If we can support children at an early stage, we can ensure that they are appropriately supported to enable them to achieve their aspirations and to lead a happy and healthy standard of living.
Empowering Families is being launched at a time when early preventative services in some parts of the country are difficult to access and those that do are often unable to offer a longer term level of support. From my own professional practice, I am aware that services such as mentoring and respite are extremely limited. Within our own mentoring package, we will be able to offer long term mentoring packages for children, supporting them to navigate on their journey through childhood. There is a charge for all of our support options. I personally understand the challenges that agencies are facing in relation to funding so I have ensured that our pricing structure is at a competitive level as I want us to reach those children who need our support.
When commissioning support from Empowering Families, you will have the reassurance that I have a wide range of professional knowledge and expertise which will ensure that the children that you refer access a high level of quality support.
* I have 15 years experience of working within primary education; working as a Teaching Assistant/Higher Level Teaching Assistant. I have supported children with a wide range of needs including ASD and ADHD.
* I have 6 years experience of working for the Nottinghamshire County Council Family Service supporting families with complex needs in a range of different roles.
* I have 3 years experience within Early Help management within the Derbyshire County Council Early Help team.
* I am a step-parent so I have a sound understanding of the challenges faced within parenting.
* I have active involvement in community initiatives including Scouting and junior parkrun.
I am looking forward to working with you all to ensure that the children that you refer are supported to become more confident, to become more resilient and to become more empowered to make important decisions around their own lives.

Our mentoring service provides a child aged between 9 and 13 years with a consistent mentor to spend time with, talk to and work through things. We are able to offer a long term, safe space, with a trusted mentor who can build a positive relationship with the individual child.
Our mentors have an enhanced DBS check and are experienced in working with children.
Our support will always be child focussed, working on the child's own interests and aspirations. Our initial session will focus on action planning to ensure that our mentoring sessions have a clear child centred focus. Our mentors support a child for a period of 6 or 12 months; on request we can offer more bespoke packages.
Our mentoring sessions can take in different forms. It might involve meeting up for a hot drink and a chat, playing sports, going ten pin bowling, going for a trip to the cinema or a visit to a place of interest for the child. We will always work to the best interests of the child that we are mentoring.

At Empowering Families, we understand that parenting your child can be extremely stressful at times. This can put considerable pressure on the relationship that you have with your child.
Our service can support any family unit including those that are at risk of breakdown and for those children that are cared for under a Special Guardianship Order (SGO).
We offer a respite service for any child aged between 9 and 13 years. This could be anything from 1 to 3 hours during the day. Unfortunately, we are not currently able to offer an overnight respite service.
Our respite support is always child centred, focussing on the best interests of each individual child. Each session will be led by the interests of the child and we will plan a respite session that provides them with appropriate stimulation during the time that they spend with our worker.
During the respite session, we can undertake an activity with the child such as going to the cinema or ten pin bowling.
There is a charge for our respite service. Our prices start at £20 per hour however we can provide an individual quotation based upon the needs of the family.
We accept referrals from agencies or self-referrals by parent/carers.
If the child receives Disability Living Allowance, this could be used to fund our respite service.
Child exploitation is a type of abuse. When a child is exploited, they are groomed by being given items such as gifts, drugs, money, status and affection. This is usually in exchange for carrying out a criminal activity known as Child Criminal Exploitation or performing sexual activities, known as Child Sexual Exploitation.
In a complex world, more and more children are facing the risk of being exploited.
We offer an exploitation awareness session for any child in Year 5 or Year 6. We offer an interactive two hour session that provides a general awareness of criminal and sexual exploitation. We also offer a two hour workshop to support parents and carers with their understanding around the risk of exploitation.
There is a charge for our child exploitation awareness sessions.
*Our session for children costs £75.00. This cost covers the two hour session so we can work with several siblings at the same time to reduce the overall cost.
*Our session for parents/carers costs £75.00.
The cost of our exploitation awareness sessions can be spread over a 3 month payment plan. We accept referrals from agencies and self-referrals from parents/carers.
We are now accepting referrals. Please download a copy of our referral form.
